This is a musical project that unfolds very freely, passing through fragments and musical elaborations from various countries, continents and contexts. The common denominator is the ‘South’ of the world and the enhancement of popular culture. Far removed from philological approaches and claiming a non-English speaking origin. The nature and high temperatures of a variety of popular songs from Italy and other countries. Proudly meticulous songs, loyally stolen from their countries of origin, songs that have made people cry and dance! that have consoled! that have helped to punctuate work, or whistle the lazies. Sincere melodies, full of heart. From Balkan sounds, it veers towards a Sicilian waltz, gliding through a flamenco rumba and a Mexican ballad, and tries to land with a casque to the rhythm of an Argentine tango.
Camilla Barbarito
is a singer and performer from Milan. She trained through a varied path of experimental theatre and singing, thanks also to some youthful tours in Sub-Saharan Africa and the consequent discovery of non-European cultures. She collaborates with numerous musical ensembles and carries out her own original research in the field of Mediterranean popular music, drawing inspiration from Balkan sounds, Portuguese fado, Greek rebetika music, Argentine tango and Romany music. She is the creator of the character Nina Madù, who together with the band Le Reliquie Commestibili has been highly appreciated in the independent scene. Together with Fabio Marconi, she is the artistic director of the music festival La Cura di Dioniso for Van-Ghè Ambulatorio d’Arte.
