VR Project [Rendez-Vous] explores the challenges of recent virtual reality technology and related possibilities for contemporary dance. Immersed in virtual reality, a video dance installation unfolds, which is not only recorded, but also enjoyed by spectators in a public space. The same space is on the one hand a place of the stage, on the other hand a place where the performance is enjoyed. The choreography is recorded with a 360° video camera and the performance becomes visible to the spectator as virtual reality thanks to special glasses to be worn. The virtual reality installation plays with the audience’s senses, as the location of the performance is the same as the physical location of the spectator, thus creating a new perception of space and dance.
