A project hosted through the grant Bando CURA 2025
Which rituals find space in the public sphere? And how do collective actions transform the use of places? La Plaza_studio explores the square as both a physical and symbolic space with the aim of creating a gestural vocabulary. The square, a meeting place par excellence, is analyzed through the collective and individual rituals of the past and present in order to understand the changes, limits, and potential that shape sociality and influence the use of shared spaces. From markets to street games, from strolling to demonstrations, from sitting on a step to a sit-in, the project seeks to work on how a simple action can become a choral act capable of bringing out the importance of public space as a collective expression.

Elisa Sbaragli is a choreographer who investigates the body as a malleable material, exploring its transformation as a tool of perception, memory, and narration. Her research places the gesture at the center, both as a practice for inhabiting space and as a device for relationship and dialogue with other bodies. Among her most recent works are Se Domani, winner of the Danza&Danza Award – Italian Production by an Emerging Artist, mentioned by Aerowaves 2025 among the recommended works, selected for NID Platform 2025 in the Programming section and presented in 2024 in the Open Studios section; and Mirada, winner of the Danza Urbana XL 2024 call of the Anticorpi XL Network. In 2025 she is in production with La Plaza, a project supported by ResiDance, an initiative of the Anticorpi XL Network, winner of the Progetto CURA 2025 call (CROSS Residence, Verbania and Teatri di Vita, Bologna), and with Falena, a special project for InCastro Festival. In 2023 she took part in the project CRISOL – Creative Processes, funded by the Boarding Pass Plus 2022/2024 program. She completed the Azione training program directed by Sosta Palmizi in 2017, and in 2013 the two-year Professional Training Program for Contemporary Dancers at C.I.M.D., directed by Franca Ferrari. In 2011 she obtained a degree in Political Science from the University of Siena.
