The path, as it is normally defined, is ‘a natural route traced in mountainous and rural places, in woods and meadows, by the passage of men and animals’. It is a track in the earth that traces the way, guides us through landscapes and accompanies us, in between effort and discovery, escape and search, approaching or leaving a destination. Often the path is an incognita: we do not know its origin or destination. In the evocative atmosphere of the Sacro Monte of Ghiffa, a labyrinth of paths weaves between wild nature and architecture shaped by spiritual knowledge. A place in which movement has neither beginning nor end, a perpetual dance. Each path hosts choreographic experiences that tell fragments of life: a human mosaic made up of conflicting emotions, archetypes and symbols. Through silent dances, precariousness and passion, restlessness and hope, love and cruelty - feelings that we often prefer not to face. It is up to the spectator to choose their own itinerary, to immerse themselves in this journey and to confront their own ghosts. Each step is a piece to recompose the mysterious mosaic of an inner world.
The EgriBiancoDanza Company, directed by Susanna Egri and Raphael Bianco, was founded in Turin in 1999. The company builds upon more than thirty years of experience inherited from its predecessor, I Balletti di Susanna Egri.
Distinguished by a repertoire rich in social and spiritual themes, the company showcases works by Raphael Bianco as well as choreographers from both the Italian and international artistic scene. EgriBiancoDanza embodies the distinctive values of the Egri Foundation for Dance: curiosity, tradition and innovation, research, and collaboration - principles that guide and inspire all of the company’s artists. Composed of a core ensemble of highly skilled dancers with extensive professional experience, EgriBiancoDanza boasts a solid repertoire that includes theatrical performances, installations, and site-specific works - immersive experiences that deeply engage the spectator.
Raphael Bianco trained as a dancer and choreographer, studying both classical and contemporary dance. He pursued studies in choreographic composition, exploring Laban's theories under the guidance of Susanna Egri and Karin Waehener. After performing with Carte Blanche, the Norwegian National Contemporary Dance Company, and gaining experience with Micha Van Hoecke's Ensemble, he became a dancer at the Ballet du Nord – National Choreographic Centre of Roubaix in France. In 1999, Raphael returned to Italy and co-founded Compagnia EgriBiancoDanza with Susanna Egri. As a choreographer, he embraces eclecticism as his artistic credo, dedicating each project to a different poetic and aesthetic exploration. In recent years, however, his research has become more focused -abstract and visionary - centering on the infinite possibilities of the body and movement. Raphael draws inspiration from political and social issues as well as the depths of the human soul, placing the human experience at the core of his choreographic investigation.
