Dov’è più profondo

Irene Russolillo
Fall 2020

Dov’è più profondo is a live-set that mixes dance, music and voices and it is the outcome of a two-week residency. During the residency, practitioners of traditional local forms of orality and singing are invited to share their knowledge and fix their vocal contributions through recordings. From these collected tracks, an original piece of music is created through a new elaboration. The aim is to intervene on this precious matter, bearing personal and collective memories, and try to re-situate and re-adapt musical and vocal elements tightly linked to tradition, in a proposal that speaks a language of the present .
The creative process ramifies around the moving body and voice, this voice coming from within. A voice that is the closest element to our organs and which is connected and transformed by our history and traditions. The invitation to undertake this process is: are we ready to deal with tradition, or to question our historical and subjective identity? In other words, are we ready to transform the constituted elements (or let them be transformed) so that they are again and again in relation to the world around us? The musical discourse is the field on which we measure these reflections, appealing to the transformative power of the process shared with the temporary micro-communities that are constituted at each stage.
